Free Talk Live is a syndicated talk radioshow heard around the world. The show, airing live seven nights a week, is heard on110 radio stations and four television stations and broadcasts from Keene, New Hampshire as part of the Free State Project. The Liberty Radio Network, LRN.FM, is running because of Free Talk Live and airs liberty-oriented radio around the clock. Mark Edge and Ian Freeman are the hosts of Free Talk Liveand have been named one of the 100 most important talk radio shows in America by TALKERSmagazine for the last four years running. Ian and Mark do more than just talk about politics onFree Talk Live, they are also activists.
Ian Freeman and Mark Edge are no strangers to being caged, Mark having served nine years in prison and Ian, who is jailed more frequently for things like “obstructing law enforcement” and even having a couch in his yard. Despite their regular activism, the two hosts of Free Talk Live are well known figures and have one of the largest radio shows in the country. The hosts may have made an enemy, however, by regularly speaking out against the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Ian Freeman, in particular, believes that he is on a list to be searched every time he travels. Ian is pulled aside and “super-secret-special-searched”.
On Friday morning, Mark and Ian were preparing to fly back to New Hampshire after a business trip. The two had already been through the TSA checkpoint in the airport and were getting ready to board the flight. Mark asked Ian to charge his cell phone using a battery that Ian has in his backpack. Ian agreed, and Mark handed his phone over. Mark boarded the plane. Ian, however, was singled out again. The TSA pulled Ian aside, preparing to search the activist again. United Airlines was told to hold the flight as the TSA began to protect the American people from the potential hazards of a man who is co-host of a nationally syndicated talk radio show heard around the world.
Ian was searched again. As he was searched, the United Airlines plane to Manchester, New Hampshire left without him. Mark was left on the plane without a phone and no clue what was happening to his co-host. The two had a pre-recorded interview scheduled with Dr. Ron Paul for Friday morning; one that Ian wasn’t able to attend.
Ian was eventually given permission to board a flight, but the damage had already been done. One wonders what potential hazard Ian Freeman presented to the people on that plane. A co-host of one of the 100 most important talk radio shows in America who promotes voluntary interactions may not seem like much of a threat to the average American. Ian Freeman, however, has been noted for his disdain of the TSA. There have been numerous reports in the last month of the TSA attempting to “punish” travelers through extra searches, lengthy interviews, and eventheft. Perhaps this was the TSA’s attempt to retaliate.
