Speaking on WYBS radio this morning, former Libertarian Party of Nevada and Libertarian State Leadership Alliance chair Jim Duensing confirmed that he is seeking the Libertarian nomination for President of the United States.
Duensing supporters were seen at the Libertarian Party of Nevada convention this past weekend wearing Jim Duensing for President T-Shirts.
Duensing recently caused a stir in Navada by holding a Marin Luther King Day rally at a shooting range. He started Libertarians for Justice (“because 9/11 truth is not enough”) and seconded the nomination of Ernie Hancock for chair of the Libertarian National Commitee at last May’s national convention.
On October 29, 2009, Duensing, who was chairman of the Nevada Libertarian Party until March, 2009, was shot by a Las Vegas policeman after the police had stopped Duensing for making an illegal turn and some illegal lane changes. He was also tazed, and the case is still making its way through the court system.
Other announced or possible candidates for the Libertarian presidential nomination include Wayne Root and James Libertarian Burns, both also from the Las Vegas area, where the nominee will be selected in May 2012, as well as Lee Wrights from Texas.
Speaking with Paulie of IPR on WYBS radio, Duensing said that his goal is to get 3 percent of the votes for President as the Libertarian Party nominee in 2012. He said he believed giving him a home field advantage was not what the Libertarian National Commitee had in mind when they picked Las Vegas for the party’s 2012 convention. He said he supports a criminal investigation of former US Vice President Dick Cheney, and plans to travel to Libertarian state conventions leading up to the nomination.
