U.S. District Court Says Only State Courts Can Determine if Ohio’s New Ballot Access Law Violates State Constitution

On October 14, U.S. District Court Judge Michael H. Watson issued an opinion in Libertarian Party of Ohio v Husted, s.d., 2:13cv-953. He ruled that a federal court cannot rule on whether the ballot access law passed in 2013 violates the Ohio State Constitution. Only state courts can do that.
The Ohio Constitution, Article V, section 7, says, “All nominations for elective state, district, county and municipal offices shall be made at direct primary elections or by petition as provided by law.” The 2013 ballot access law says that newly-qualifying parties shall nominate by convention, not primary. …read more

AT&T Will Be With You…Always…via NumberSync

The preposterousness of the company known as AT&T continues. NumberSync? Really?!
Oh, you don’t know what NumberSync is? Ah, well it is pretty new, so I don’t blame you (but I might blame you for something later). NumberSync is a new “technology” that allows you to be reached by one phone number over a series of devices, regardless of their SIM card. Thus, if you have a tablet, a smartwatch, and a bunch of phones, if you have NumberSync enabled with AT&T, you can receive a phone call or text on all of those devices.
Granted, this isn’t anything new. Google Voice …read more

Gun Shop Forced to Pay $6m to Two Cops Because they Sold the Gun that was Used to Shoot Them

In a verdict that could prefigure a political alliance between police unions and advocates of new restrictions on private firearms ownership, a federal jury in Wisconsin has ordered Milwaukee-based Badger Guns to pay nearly $6 million to two police officers who suffered severe injuries after being shot with a gun purchased at the store.
This unprecedented civil award will encourage efforts to hold gun retailers – and, perhaps, firearms manufacturers – civilly liable for crimes committed by other people. It also reinforces the prevailing (and factually impoverished) narrative of an ever-escalating “war on cops.” Ten additional lawsuits similar to the one …read more

VIDEO: Cop Spits in Innocent Handcuffed Man’s Face Then Arrests Him for the Assault

Baltimore, MD — A police sergeant was suspended Tuesday after cellphone videos captured him spitting in the face of a handcuffed man. Although the man was restrained on the ground and not fighting back, police charged him with assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
Shortly after 8 p.m. on Monday, Sgt. Robert Mesner and several other Baltimore police officers approached a group of people sitting on the steps of a building and ordered them to move. Although upset that they were told to leave, the group complied while voicing their frustration at the officers. As 31-year-old Alfred Evan kept talking trash …read more

Donald Trump Will Host “Saturday Night Live”; Other Republican Presidential Candidates May Benefit from “Equal Time” Rule

On October 13, it was announced that Donald Trump will host “Saturday Night Live” on the evening of November 7. As this story mentions, that likely means that NBC will be required to give equal time to other Republican presidential candidates. “Equal time” is still in the law, although it doesn’t apply to “bona fide news programs”. However Saturday Night Live doesn’t really qualify as a news show; it is entertainment. As the story explains, NBC doesn’t need to give other candidates a chance to be on Saturday Night Live; it just needs to give some …read more

Florida Republican Party Excludes Two Presidential Candidates who are Recognized by National Republican Party

The Republican Party has invited fourteen Republican presidential candidates to its Sunshine Summit held November 13-14. Candidates who are invited, and who appear at this fund-raiser, are put on the party’s presidential primary automatically. Others must either pay a filing fee of $25,000 or complete a very difficult petition process.
The Florida Republican Party did not invite former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore, nor did it invite Mark Everson, IRS Commissioner under President Reagan. These two candidates are recognized as bona fide Republican presidential candidates by the Republican National Committee.
The Florida Republican Party says it didn’t invite Gilmore or …read more

Photographer Removes Phones from His Images Revealing Just How Addicted We’ve Become

In a world where digital technology advances at a rapid rate, increasingly fewer people can seemingly resist the allure of looking at their phone or other digital devices, often to the detriment of being truly present in the moment.
It’s not uncommon, when walking down a busy street filled with people, to see more people looking at their phones than actually acknowledging the existence of the other people with a friendly “hello,” sharing a pleasant smile or even simply making eye contact.
Photographer Eric Pickersgill has captured this digital disconnect between people with a stunning series of photos. The images reveal …read more

The “Secure” Archos GranitePhone: A Strange Dark Android Entry

Something I’ve been happy to promote on my podcast–Sovryn Tech–and have been even more pleased to see come into fruition, is the “crypto-economy”. Now, I don’t necessarily mean cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, but I more mean how software and devices with security, anonymity, and privacy (or DAPS) that are baked-in from the beginning are being developed en masse. And certainly there are plenty of products to look at. Silent Circle’s Blackphone and Blackphone 2. The Turing Phone. The Quasar IV. Even more mainstream companies like FreedomPop have gotten in on the game when it comes to devices, in particular.
And now …read more
