No, You Can’t Buy Gas with Bitcoin

The idea was smattered all over the worthless cesspool of the internet…sorry, I mean Reddit…
“You can buy your gas with Bitcoin!”
Wow, what a concept! It seems to be the one thing that hasn’t directly happened yet (at least far as I know): a gas station that accepts Bitcoin either at the pump or at the front counter. While I’ll be the first to say I don’t see it happening anytime soon in most countries (I’m well aware you can do it in parts of Europe, and that Bitcoin gas pumps have been devised, but I don’t see any around)–certainly not …read more

California Election Law, Telling Republican Party How to Choose Presidential Electors, Creates Knotty Problems

California, despite losing the lawsuit San Francisco County Democratic Central Committee v Eu in the U.S. Supreme Court in 1989, still regulates political parties to an unusual degree. California Election Code section 7300 tells the Republican Party that “the Republican nominees for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Treasurer, Controller, Attorney General, and Secretary of State…shall act as presidential electors.”
This law has several problems. First, because voters passed Proposition 14 in 2010, parties in California no longer have nominees (except for President, Vice-President and presidential elector). Second, even if the law is interpreted to mean mere members of the Republican …read more

Outgoing Kentucky Governor Vastly Eases Ability to Register to Vote for Most Ex-Felons

On November 24, outgoing Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear issued an executive order, making it much easier for most ex-felons to register to vote. The order is expected to ease the path for 170,000 individuals. Beshear is a Democrat and he only has two more weeks in office. However, incoming Governor Matt Bevin, a Republican, said during the campaign that he favors this idea. See this story. …read more

The White House Gave ISIS a 45-Minute Warning Before Bombing Oil Tankers

Infowars | Paul Joseph Watson
The Obama White House is giving ISIS a 45 minute warning before bombing their oil tankers by dropping leaflets advising potential jihadists to flee before air strikes in Syria.
“Get out of your trucks now, and run away from them. Warning: air strikes are coming. Oil trucks will be destroyed. Get away from your oil trucks immediately. Do not risk your life,” the leaflet reads.
The leaflet drops are justified under the premise that the oil tanker drivers might be civilians and not ISIS recruits, although it’s an explanation that doesn’t wash with critics.
“It’s not like these drivers …read more

Some Lesser-Known Democratic Presidential Candidates Begin to Qualify for Primary Ballots

Some Democratic presidential candidates other than Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley have already qualified to appear on presidential primary ballots.

In Arkansas, these candidates have qualified: Roque de la Fuente, James Valentine, and John Wolfe.
Both states permit a candidate to qualify by means of a filing fee. …read more

Virginia Reform Party Launches Campaign to Draft Jim Webb for President

The Virginia Reform Party has launched an effort to draft Jim Webb for President. See here. The web page is draftwebb2016.com.
The Reform Party is free to begin circulating a petition listing Webb as its presidential nominee, without the need for Webb to take any action at all. However, such petitions in Virginia can’t begin to circulate until January 4, 2016. Also Virginia permits stand-ins for candidates named on petitions, so the Reform Party of Virginia is also free to launch a petition that names a stand-in for both President and Vice-President. …read more

OpenKeychain: Your New Best Friend on Android for Serious Encryption

PGP. The great encryption technology. Well, more specifically, OpenPGP. This is an encryption technology that has quite the story behind it (really, it reads like some of the best spy thrillers you can imagine). And in the present, as well as likely going forward, it is still the encryption that is feared most by bad actors of all stripes (government organizations, etc.) because it is still so solid. An impressive fact on it’s own considering how long it has been around (going on 25 years).
There’s something to be said for using tried-and-true older technologies. Consider IRC. It’s still the single …read more

NYPD Cops Dramatically Reduce Arrest Rate for Pot, and the City Didn’t Fall into Chaos

New York, NY — Last November, Mayor Bill De Blasio announced that police would no longer arrest people simply for possessing small amounts of marijuana. Naturally, this news was met with fear mongering by the police unions who claimed it would put cops in danger.

Colorado Juries Keep Letting People Go for Driving on Weed, Prosecutors and Cops are Furious

Adams County, CO — Colorado prosecutors are getting frustrated at jurors for daring to exercise rationality instead of blindly following the will of the State. A growing number of juries are acquitting people of driving under the influence of cannabis, even when tests show they are over the state’s legal blood-THC limit.
Since the recreational use of cannabis became legal, Colorado authorities are scrambling to apply rules and regulations to this new reality. They have established a 5 ng/ml blood-THC limit for operation of a motor vehicle, which seems to be arbitrary as there is no preponderance of data to support …read more
