UPDATE: Two Ways to Buy Gas with Bitcoin…For Now

Back in November of 2015, I did an experiment on whether or not it is possible–in the United States–to travel fairly long distances while only buying gas with Bitcoin. Come to find out, despite what a bunch of nincompoops were saying on Reddit, Twitter, websites, and other social media, it wasn’t viable to buy gas with Bitcoin.
The general idea stated by these people is that you could buy a gift card for one store at gyft.com with Bitcoin, and then you could go to a brick-and-mortar store like GameStop or CVS and buy a gas gift card (such as Shell) …read more

To Fight Racism, Oregon College Devotes an Entire Month to ‘Whiteness’-Shaming

Portland, OR — The Cascade Campus Diversity Council at Portland Community College has just declared April to be one of the most unprecedented “educational projects” ever conceived — “Whiteness History Month.”
According to PCC, “Whiteness History Month: Context, Consequences, and Change is a multidisciplinary, district-wide, educational project examining race and racism through an exploration of the construction of whiteness, its origins, and heritage.”
In the opposite manner of “Black History Month,” Whiteness History Month will not be celebrating the contributions made throughout history by people with white skin, but rather shaming them.
“Whiteness History Month, unlike heritage months, is not a celebratory endeavor, …read more

Making Congress feel the pressure

Each month, we want a bigger force pressuring Congress to “Read the Bills.” Do you? Retweet

Can you please send Congress a message right now, asking them to support Downsize DC’s “Read the Bills Act?” Rand Paul has introduced it in the Senate.

Just click here and send the message, which reads…

I expect my Senators to co-sponsor S. 1571 and strongly encourage my Representative to introduce the Read the Bills Act.

You can add personal comments. We hope you do. But it’s not necessary. Here’s how this fits into our strategy for 2016…
We want to INCREASE the amount of pressure we place on …read more

Alabama State Senator Cam Ward Says He Will Re-Introduce Ballot Access Bill in 2016

Alabama State Senator Cam Ward, in an e-mail, says he will again introduce his ballot access improvement bill. He has already introduced it in four previous sessions of the legislature.
Alabama is one of five states in November 2014 with the Democratic-Republican monopoly on the statewide ballot. The others were New Hampshire, New Mexico, California, and Pennsylvania. Since the 2014 election, the Pennsylvania ballot access laws have been declared unconstitutional. And the New Mexico requirements are under attack in the Tenth Circuit, with a hearing in March 2016. …read more

Officer Firing at Fleeing Vehicle Misses Driver, Kills Female Passenger and Her Dog Instead

El Cajon, CA — In yet another tragic case of an officer fearing for his life from a fleeing car, a woman and a dog have been killed.
Early Saturday morning, police spotted a stolen red Toyota and pulled over the vehicle. Inside the car were three men, a woman and a dog. As the officer approached the vehicle, it sped off before he could get to them and led police on a high-speed chase.
Eventually, the car was cornered in a cul-de-sac and came to a halt. As the officer exited his vehicle, according to the El Cahon Police Department, the …read more

Arizona Bill to Let Independent Voters Vote in Presidential Primaries

Two Arizona legislators have introduced a bill that would allow independent voters to vote in presidential primaries. Although Arizona law already requires that independent voters be allowed to choose any primary ballot for office other than President, the law allows Arizona parties to close their presidential primaries to members only. No party in Arizona now lets independents vote in its presidential primary.
The sponsors are Senator Martin Quezada (D-Phoenix) and Representative Richard Andrade (D-Glendale). The bill was introduced on January 11 and has an emergency clause. …read more

Black Oregon Militiaman Bridges the Divide — Asks Black Lives Matter Activists to Join Them

Harney County, OR — As the standoff in Harney County continues, so do the calls for government violence as well as the support for the occupiers.
Whether or not you agree with the armed protesters at Malheur national wildlife refuge, calling for them to be ‘disemboweled’ or ‘mowed down’ by agents of the state is a horrible idea.
There is the notion that if these protesters were black, they would have already been killed, but, for the most part, that notion is false.
In September of 2011, hundreds of protesters took to New York City, erecting tents and breaking the city’s loitering laws. …read more
