According to this story, the Utah legislature does not plan any activity to straighten out the confusion in Utah’s law on how qualified parties nominate candidates. Instead the legislature will let the federal and state courts resolve the issues.

Last Friday, the Pentagon quietly informed the Senate Armed Services Committee that it will not seek any further punishment on retired Army general David Petraeus, who resigned in 2012 after it was discovered that he shared highly classified material with his biographer.
The material contained eight notebooks worth of “code words, war strategy, the names of covert officers and other sensitive information. In addition, they outlined deliberative discussions with the National Security Council and President Obama.” The Justice Department said if this information were disclosed to the wrong people, it would cause “exceptionally grave damage.”

Missoula, MT – Missoula County Public Schools have attempted to recall all copies of a high school newspaper and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the publishing of photos of topless individuals in The Willard Wire, the Willard Alternative School’s student newspaper.
A total of six topless individuals appear on the front page photo, with two others appearing in another photo within the paper, along with an article titled “Free the Nipple.” The piece focuses on the differing perceptions between male and female toplessness in society; with specific attention being given to the stigma on women breastfeeding in public.

On Saturday, January 30, New Mexico HJR 12 passed the House Committee on Government, Elections, and Indian Affairs. See this story. It would amend the state Constitution to require parties to let independent voters vote in primaries. The bill now moves to the House Judiciary Committee. It will probably be amended. New Mexico has two tiers of qualified parties, large parties that nominate by primary, and small parties that nominate by convention.
