Connecticut Voter Files Federal Lawsuit Against Law Permitting Parties to Expel Voters

On February 3, Jane Miller sued some Connecticut local election officials, and some local Republican Party officers, because they expelled her from the Republican Party on April 20, 2015. Without her consent, they changed her voter registration from “Republican” to “independent”, on the grounds that in 2013, she had accepted a Democratic Party nomination to run for a local office. Miller v Dunkerton, 3:16cv-174.
She has not been a registered Democrat at any time since 2003, and it is possible she has never been a registered Democrat at all, although her complaint is vague about that. She registered …read more

Michigan Senate Passes Bill Outlawing Oral and Anal Sex — Violators Will Face 15 Years in Prison

Lansing, MI — During their session last week, the Michigan Senate passed a bill that effectively bans all forms of sodomy, anal, oral, gay and non-gay — making the acts punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Surprisingly, Michigan is not alone in this archaic and oppressive legislation. Michigan, along with Idaho, Utah, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, all have laws on the books making consensual oral and anal sex, illegal, between all individuals. Montana, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, have only outlawed these acts if those engaged in them are gay.

Years Before the First TV, Tesla Predicted and Helped to Develop the Smartphone and FaceTime

On April 27, 1927, Bell Telephone and the U.S. Department of Commerce conducted the first long distance transmission of moving images between Washington D.C. and New York City. The first modern ‘television’ was born.
Secretary of Commerce at the time, Herbert Hoover commented:
“Today we have, in a sense, the transmission of sight for the first time in the world’s history. Human genius has now destroyed the impediment of distance in a new respect, and in a manner hitherto unknown.”
Hoover’s prediction of the ‘unknown’ stands true today as the modern TV continues to evolve into things humanity never imagined only decades prior.

Washington State Bill to Make Petitions in Lieu of Filing Fee an Option for All Candidates

Washington state election law provides for a petition in lieu of filing fee, but it can only be used by candidates who allege they cannot afford the filing fee. The House State Government Committee is sponsoring HB 2477. It says that any candidate may choose to submit a petition instead of paying the filing fee. Also, it says if the number of valid signatures turns out to be not enough, but is at least 95% of the requirement, then the petition can still be used to pay the bulk of the filing fee, with a proportional small …read more

Incentives matter! That’s why the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2016 (HR 4476) requires Congress to balance the budget…

It was last introduced in 2009, when the Republicans were in the minority. Rep. Blum’s office has been a pleasure to deal with, and you’ll see us directly quoted in their press release.

Under the Fiscal Responsibility Act…
