Baltimore, MD — The Crips, Bloods, BGF and other major gangs reportedly called a truce during yesterday’s Freddie Gray protests in Baltimore. They did not make threats of violence, they were not indicated as participants in acts of violence or vandalism during the protests.

On April 20, the North Carolina House passed HB 8 by a vote of 69-48. It converts elections for Justice of the Supreme Court, and Judges on State Appeals Courts, from non-partisan elections to partisan elections. These judicial elections had been partisan in the past, but were converted to non-partisan elections effective with the 2004 election.
Other states with partisan judicial races for State Supreme Court are Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Michigan and Ohio political parties do nominate judicial candidates, but the ballot omits party labels. West Virginia had partisan elections for those offices, but …read more

On April 21, the Nevada Assembly defeated AB 320. It would have converted all county executive elected offices from partisan to non-partisan elections. Albuquerque, NM — Disturbing new details have emerged in the case of an Albuquerque police officer Cedric Greer, who was caught turning off his body cam in order to beat a homeless man.
As we previously reported, the misconduct was brought to light when a cadet turned Greer in after witnessing the beating.
The incident occurred March 20 when the officers responded to a service call at a hotel to help a man who was “down and out,” but instead of helping the man, Greer took another approach.

Atlanta, GA — In yet another tragic incident of retaliation against officers who try to police their own, police officer Charron Walters is now fighting an uphill legal battle to prove her case.
In 2011, Walters and fellow officers were working a crime bust on a chop shop. Walters said she saw her teammates stealing during the bust.
“I’m trained to recognize crime, I know what I recognized that day, they asked me about it, I spoke up about it,” Detective Charron Walters told Channel 2’s Rachel Stockman.
