Brewster, N.Y. – Living up to the title of man’s best friend, a heroic service dog named Figo is being recognized for saving the life of his owner, Audrey Stone, 62, after leaping in front of a moving school mini-bus.
When the service dog saw an oncoming mini school bus heading for Stone, 62, the blind woman he was trained to guide, the golden retriever’s protective instincts kicked in. He threw himself at the closest part of the vehicle he could, according to The Journal News.

On May 24, Maine LD 176 became law. The legislature had passed it on May 5 and Governor Paul LePage let it become law without signing it, but also not vetoing it. Here is the text of the law. Maine already didn’t permit out-of-staters do witness signatures being made on the petition, but now they can’t even ask voters to sign it. Pomona, CA — The DARPA Robotics Challenge finals in Pomona California has just concluded. A new robotics team has been crowned and awarded $2,000,000. Twenty-five teams from around the world entered their autonomous robots to compete in real world challenges based on man-made and natural disasters.

South Korean – Team Kite – won the $2,000,000 award.
DARPA stands for Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and they have been hosting challenges similar to this for years.

Cleveland, Ohio – In the months since police shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice for playing with a toy gun in a park, the Cleveland Police Department has insisted that there was no wrongdoing on the part of the officer. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, thus far the police department has indicated that they believe that the 12-year-old boy was responsible for his own murder because he was playing with a toy gun in public.
