Kenneth Jackson, an independent candidate for House of Commons in the Canadian election next month, says that if he is elected, he will vote for bills on the basis of how his constituents wish. Voters who live in his district will have the ability to express their policy opinions via the internet. Furthermore, he proposes a new system of representative government, in which all members of Parliament would also vote on the basis of public opinion.
Here is his website, which explains the concept. Elections would no longer be based on geographical constituencies and there would be no …read more
Seattle, Washington – An IRS agent was arrested this week after he was caught attempting to con a Seattle marijuana shop owner out of $20,000.
The 42-year-old agent, Paul G. Hurley, reportedly demanded a $20,000 bribe from the shop owner, in exchange for a break on an audit. In fact, Hurley had said that he saved the business owner over a million dollars on his tax return, and that his current tax bill was just under $300,000.
The shop owner was not even concerned with getting a break, so when the agent left he contacted federal authorities who set up a sting …read more
So let me tell you how the world works these days (actually, in principle it has worked this way for…well…ever). If someone from what is fashionably considered a “terrorist organization”, and all you do is retweet it, you could get a visit from the Full Blooded Italians, otherwise known as the “FBI”. No really, it’s true (okay, the part about the “Full Blooded Italians” isn’t true, it’s actually the “Federal Bureau of Investigation” that will visit you, but both ideas are equally antiquated, so c’mon).
Not only will it be a “visit” from the FBI, but you will get arrested. Because …read more
The Pinoleville Pomo Nation made headlines earlier this year when they announced that they will be growing medical marijuana on their reservation.
Aided by a Kansas company called FoxBarry that helps Native American tribes develop for-profit ventures, and United Cannabis, a Colorado company that develops strains of pot, the Pinoleville Pomo Nation set out to make history.
Although the partnership with FoxBarry and United Cannabis would be short lived, the Pinoleville marijuana farm was well on its way to being the first large-scale medical pot cultivation and distribution enterprise on tribal land in California.
The new operation, on their sovereign land, would benefit …read more

All the ways in which politicians (and most Americans) are wrong about Iran

According to a new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics, children exposed to indoor insecticides have a higher risk of developing childhood cancers, including leukemia and lymphoma. With pesticides being used inside homes, preventive measures should be considered to reduce children’s exposure to these deadly carcinogens.
In a recent meta-analysis consisting of 16 previous studies of children exposed to indoor and outdoor pesticides, researchers found that indoor insecticides were associated with a 47 percent increased risk for childhood leukemia. Indoor residential pesticides, including professional pest control services, indoor flea foggers, flea and tick pet collars, and various roach and ant …read more
No Animosity, No Violence, Only Respect. Officer Shows What it Means to be a Good Cop
Elgin, IL — Respect and compassion are ingrained in our beings. While some people never fully develop these qualities, others embrace them as a daily ritual.
