Call It Katrina-care

ACTION ITEM

I sent Congress a letter asking them (AGAIN!) to repeal Obamacare. You can copy or edit my personal comments to send your own letter…

The Obamacare fiasco has me thinking about Hurricane Katrina. The Democrats said the Republicans botched the disaster relief in New Orleans because they hate “government.” But no such excuse is available now to explain the botched Obamacare rollout.

I think we should start calling Obamacare…

Katrina-care!

Doing so will drive home a crucial point. The State…

* is incompetent
* has no incentive to succeed
* takes my tax money no matter how poorly it performs
* even rewards itself for failure

When there’s a real sense of mission some State efforts can somewhat overcome these perverse incentives, as with the moon landing or the Manhattan Project. But such motivations are rarely available, and so the usual statist sloth rules the day.

Both the Katrina relief effort and Katrina-care are prime examples of this.

These FACTS indicate that we need less State involvement in healthcare, not more. Congress needs to start with two things…

* Repeal Obamacare
* Pass legislation freeing health insurance from mandated coverages

This second step would restore true health insurance in the form of low-cost major medical plans with large deductibles. This would not only make insurance affordable, but it would also restore consumer responsibility for small medical costs. That would instantly end the wasteful overuse of the medical system.

You should also give health care expenses the same tax-privileged status as employer provided health insurance. This would decouple the link between insurance and employment, and substantially reduce the pre-existing conditions problem. It’s entirely your fault that people lose their insurance when they lose their jobs. You made it that way.

Please understand that Katrina-care is another blow to Congressional legitimacy. You must reverse course.
